About the position

The Speech Language Pathologist position is classified as certificated and is located within the district. The role reports to the Executive Director of Student Services or the Building Principal and is classified as non-exempt under FLSA. The salary is determined per the bargaining agreement based on education and years of experience, currently ranging from $57,302 to $103,889, prorated. This job description serves as a standard for similar positions and may be subject to change based on the employer's needs and job requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides speech and language services in the areas of student assessment, direct therapy, training and consultation for staff, parents, and equipment fabrication or adaptation.
  • Is part of the District Evaluation/Assessment Team and is responsible for evaluation of new referral students.
  • Measures and assesses the speech, language, fluency, hearing, and voice development of children, and interprets the results to appropriate individuals.
  • Diagnoses speech, language and hearing disabilities, and collaborates in the planning, development and implementation of therapeutic programs.
  • Assists in identifying and classifying disabled children and collaborates in the planning of appropriate educational and social placements and programs.
  • Consults with individual children, families and staff.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of all aspects and levels of the school curriculum as it applies to children with disabilities.
  • Participates in Child Find and screening of communication skills.
  • Participates in continuous assessment of students receiving special education programs and services.
  • Encourages and initiates research, and helps utilize findings in the solution of school problems.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to outside agencies, if needed.
  • Complies with all requirements of WAC's including timelines and appropriate report writing such as report assessments, IEP's on IEP Online, and Medicaid billing.
  • Interprets & follows WAC's as they relate to speech/language students.
  • Develops and implements an effective communication system with parents/guardians.
  • Supervises children on playground and in hallways and/or bus duty when assigned by building principal.
  • Supervises the services given by the Speech and Language Assistant, if applicable.
  • Actively participates as a building and district employee at staff meetings, PLC's and trainings.
  • Able to design communication boards and other communication devices for students.
  • Plans and instructs communication labs in preschool setting.
  • Consults and works with other SLP's and staff in meeting special education goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • M.A. or M.S. Degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Must be eligible for or possess a valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate and CCC or CFY.
  • Experience with preschool, K-12 students with special needs, desired.
  • Experience with assistive technology, desired.
  • Successful experience as a Speech Language Pathologist preferred.

  • Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles.
  • Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with parents, students, staff, and community.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and District and legal requirements.
