About The Position

CCE of Saratoga County’s 4-H Animal Science programs use hands-on, research-based learning to support positive youth development through education in dairy, livestock, poultry, small animals, and canines. The 4-H Animal Science Educator delivers and coordinates existing programming that builds life skills, leadership, and career awareness, while collaborating with CCE staff, professional organizations, volunteers, Cornell University, and community partners to meet the needs of Saratoga County youth. The Educator is part of a dynamic 4-H team that recruits and engages audiences while delivering existing programs that can evolve with organizational needs, new partnerships, or new grant initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Associate’s degree and two years related experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Travel Requirements - Ability to meet regular travel requirements associated with this position.
  • A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for Association insurance coverage are required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to effectively deliver and coordinate programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Proficiency with or ability to learn Microsoft Office suite and program-based software.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or coursework in animal science or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach existing 4-H animal science programs as assigned. Programs include but are not limited to dairy, livestock (beef, goat, sheep, alpaca, etc.), poultry and fowl, rabbits, small animals, and canine/pet care.
  • Assist with other assigned programs as assigned.
  • Serve as subject matter resource; provide standard responses.
  • Meet or exceed targeted program delivery goals.
  • Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies.
  • Serve as a positive role model for youth participants.
  • Interact with program participants.
  • Participate in committees, program teams, and professional organizations (NYSACCE4-H, NAE4-HYDP).
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or others.
  • Occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans.
  • May assist in delivering innovative educational programs.
  • May assist in multidisciplinary or multi-association team efforts to deliver programs.
  • Assist in evaluating the program and making recommendations for improvements
  • Assist in planning and managing assigned programs.
  • Assist in developing, expanding, and enhancing relationships for the program.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and management.
  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise.
  • Coordinate assigned programs, events, and meetings.
  • Recruit new program participants.
  • Attend district and state 4-H events, transport and chaperone youth.
  • Identify and secure locations (schools, community agencies, etc.) for program delivery.
  • Maintain professional relationships with schools, partners, and businesses.
  • Perform communications and marketing responsibilities.
  • Complete and submit required reports, records, and documentation on time.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participant information.
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Saratoga County policies, procedures and Cornell Cooperative Extension Skills for Success.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
