About The Position

The 3rd shift Psychiatric Care Technician at the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute plays a crucial role in supporting individuals with mental health challenges. This position involves direct interaction with patients to help them achieve therapeutic goals through daily living activities, behavioral interventions, and crisis management. The technician is responsible for monitoring patients' conditions, promoting coping skills, and ensuring a safe environment while adhering to hospital policies.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license required and must remain valid throughout employment.
• Basic computer skills for documentation in an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Experience working in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term, or correctional setting.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
• Experience with crisis intervention techniques.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with patients to achieve therapeutic goals through activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Attend to patients' problems and concerns, encouraging participation in activities.
• Provide intervention for behavior problems and crisis situations.
• Promote patients' awareness and coping skills to deal with realities of judicial controls.
• Distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate client behavior through observation and interaction.
• Monitor and report changes in patients' medical and psychiatric status.
• Lift heavy objects (greater than 50 pounds) as required.
• Walk and/or stand for a minimum of 75% of the shift.

Benefits

• Shift differentials for third shift: $2.25/hour on weekdays and $3.00/hour on weekends and weekday holidays.
