The Crane Operator (3rd Shift) at Mid-City Foundry Co. is responsible for operating a crane to transport molten metal from furnaces to molds, ensuring efficient and safe operations in a foundry environment. This role emphasizes teamwork, communication, and adherence to safety protocols to facilitate the pouring of metal into molds for quality casting production.

  • Operate the crane to move the ladle to the furnace when the metal is ready for pouring.
  • Notify the iron pourer when the desired weight is in the ladle.
  • Move the ladle to tip it so the iron pourer can slag off the metal.
  • Lock the ladle and transport it to the molds after slagging is complete.
  • Maneuver the crane to position the ladle 6”-8” from the pouring dish for the iron pourer to complete the pour.
  • Lock the ladle and return any unused metal to the furnace after pouring is completed.
  • Communicate effectively with the iron pourer and lead personnel regarding metal pouring.
  • Ensure the ladle is kept hot by placing it back on the torch when necessary.
  • Assist floor laborers with mold setup, clamp installation, and preparation of cups and dishes.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions to supervisors immediately.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • One to three years of verifiable work history.
  • Experience working in a foundry environment is preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one situations with other employees.
