The 3rd Grade Science Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging science instruction aligned to Tennessee Academic Standards. The teacher creates a joyful, rigorous, and safe learning environment that fosters scientific thinking, problem-solving skills, and academic growth among students. The teacher monitors student progress, provides targeted interventions, maintains strong relationships with families, and contributes positively to the school community.

  • Deliver daily science instruction using state-aligned curricula, inquiry-based learning, and hands-on activities.
  • Develop age-appropriate lesson plans that promote curiosity, experimentation, and mastery of science concepts.
  • Use data-driven instructional practices to scaffold learning, differentiate instruction, and meet diverse student needs.
  • Maintain a structured, positive, and culturally responsive classroom environment aligned with school-wide behavior systems.
  • Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
  • Track and analyze student data to inform instruction and ensure academic growth.
  • Provide timely feedback to students and adjust teaching strategies based on results.
  • Provide targeted instruction and RTI supports for students performing below grade level.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to implement IEP accommodations and modifications.
  • Support social-emotional development through positive reinforcement, relationship-building, and restorative practices.
  • Participate in weekly professional development, team meetings, and coaching sessions.
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with families regarding student progress, behavior, and needs.
  • Maintain accurate records, lesson plans, and compliance documentation as required by law and school policy.
  • Uphold Southern Avenue Charter School’s mission, values, expectations, and Code of Conduct.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate K–5 endorsement OR eligibility for a permit/alternative licensure pathway.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver standards-based science instruction.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to build genuine relationships with students.
  • Previous elementary classroom teaching experience (especially 3rd–5th grade).
  • Experience working in a charter or urban school environment.
  • Familiarity with TN Ready standards and data-driven instruction.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
