The position is for a 3rd Class Stationary Engineer at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, with all shifts needed. The job involves operating and monitoring high-pressure Boiler Plants and auxiliary equipment, recognizing abnormal conditions, and performing maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • Experience with starting, operating, adjusting, and stopping high-pressure steam boilers fueled by natural gas and fuel oil.
  • Experience operating and controlling auxiliary equipment requiring continuous attention.
  • Ability to maintain constant observation and record keeping of flow meters and production/supply meters.
  • Experience performing various operational repairs and preventive maintenance on boilers.
  • Ability to locate and repair limited electrical problems in burner controls and safety devices.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal pollution control requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor high-pressure Boiler Plants and auxiliary equipment.
  • Recognize and detect abnormal high pressure boiler plant and steam system operating conditions.
  • Take immediate actions to eliminate emergency situations and restore normal operating conditions.
  • Perform constant meter readings and record findings for fuel oil supply and steam production.
  • Perform operational repairs and preventive maintenance on boilers.
  • Clean burners, oils and greases moving parts, packs valves and pumps, cleans water/oil strainers.
  • Locate and repair limited electrical problems in burner controls and safety devices.
  • Collect water samples and test feed water, boiler water, and condensate using standard chemical tests.
  • Adjust blowdown methods and chemical feed pumps as necessary.
