About The Position

Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: “Protecting Water . Protecting People. ” We are seeking a Welder to partner with our experienced welding team in this environmentally focused industry. A Welder at Smith and Loveless has regular work tasking to layout, fit-up, assemble and weld fabricated and purchased parts, and sub-assemblies, so that weldments produced will meet ASME code requirements. Welders may also be required to weld on non-code products.

Requirements

  • ASME, AWS D1.1 and D1.6 certifications preferred.
  • 2-3 years previous FCAW experience preferred.
  • Pipe welding experience is a plus
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly.
  • Ability to read drawings and blueprints.
  • Must be able to pass a 3G FCAW test administered at Smith & Loveless.
  • 6G weld proficiency preferred.
  • Read and understand units of measurements and properly use a tape measure.
  • Demonstrated good work attendance.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, alcohol screening, and drug test.
  • Required to sit, stand and walk.
  • Use hands to finger, hand or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to talk and hear consistently.
  • Ability to wear proper PPE (eyeglasses, earplugs, steel toe shoes, weld hood, weld gloves, pliers and use an overhead crane.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry and/or drag up to one-hundred (100) pounds if necessary.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the role include the ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.
  • Ability to ascend and descend two (2) flights of stairs.

Responsibilities

  • Works from prints, work orders, bills of material, written instructions and practices / procedures on code work.
  • On non-code products, welder works from prints, work orders, bills of material, written instructions, verbal instructions, established practices and procedures etc.
  • Regulates welding machines to meet code procedures as required.
  • Performs layout to determine point of location for cut-outs, installation of sub-assemblies, assemblies, purchased parts, and measures and marks locations, etc.
  • Torch cuts, bevel cuts, trims, fits, installs and welds as required.
  • Welds from all and in all positions.
  • Fabricates and uses such shop aids as jigs and fixtures.
  • Ships and cleans welds.
  • Visually checks and corrects defects.
  • Performs simple maintenance to welding equipment, such as removing and/or replacing guns, cables or clamps.
  • Changes rolls of wire.
  • Uses overhead crane to position and move parts, materials and assemblies in his work area during the normal performance of his job.
  • Makes welds in all positions as required, according to ASME code specifications and S&L approved procedures.
  • Passes ASME and code welding certification test as required.
  • Performs in conformity with same.
  • Reports abnormal conditions of equipment to his supervisor.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations and keeps work area and equipment clean and orderly.
  • Maintains certifications as specified in codes.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Weld Supervisor.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
