About The Position

Swaybox Studios is rewriting the rulebook of visual storytelling. As we collaborate with DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation and Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho on a revolutionary new project, you’ll help bring bold creative visions to life through hands-on artistry and performance. This is your chance to be a part of a production that’s equal parts innovative and unforgettable. We are seeking a talented 3D Sculptor/Blendshape Artist to join our creative team. The ideal candidate will have a background utilizing Maya and ZBrush to bring 2D character concept art to life through expressive 3D blendshapes. You will play a key role in the character development process, ensuring that designs are translated effectively into 3D models that capture the essence of the original artwork.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a 3D Facial Blendshape Artist, with a strong portfolio showcasing relevant work
  • Proficiency in Maya and ZBrush for 3D sculpting and blendshape creation
  • Strong understanding of character anatomy, proportions, and expression
  • Ability to translate 2D designs into 3D models effectively while maintaining artistic integrity
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, creative environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate design concepts and revisions
  • A background in animated feature films as a blendshape artist

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of rigging principles and techniques for character animation
  • Familiarity with texturing and rendering workflows
  • Background in traditional art or illustration

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality 3D sculpts based on 2D character concept art, ensuring fidelity to the original designs
  • Develop blendshapes for facial rigs that allow for expressive character animations and performances
  • Collaborate with concept artists, animators, and other team members to understand character requirements and provide feedback during the design process
  • Optimize models for animation and performance, ensuring clean topology and efficient geometry
  • Conduct revisions and iterations based on feedback from directors and team leads to meet project goals
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation, ensuring clarity in design revisions and workflows
  • Stay current with industry trends and techniques in character sculpting and blendshape creation
