About The Position

Operate 90 ton or above cranes in accordance with all manufacturer and industry standards. Operate mechanical boom and cable or tower and cable equipment to lift and move materials, machines, or productions in many directions safely.

Requirements

  • Multiple years of experience working as an operator is strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of the operating and rigging craft is required.
  • Must have working knowledge of equipment capabilities and limitations.
  • Read, understand and implement the Operations and Safety Manuals of each piece of equipment as they relate to safety, operation, and maintenance of the piece of equipment being operated.
  • Knowledge of crane signals, rigging techniques and rigging limitations.
  • Operator must pass a written exam on general crane knowledge, including use of capacity charts and must demonstrate operating ability through a practical operating test.
  • Operator must also pass the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) physical for a commercial driver's license as specified in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Section 391.41.
  • A copy of the executed Medical Examiner's Certificate must be on file before any operation begins.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • One of the following certifications: NCCCO-Lattice Boom Crawler (LBC), NCCCO-Lattice Boom Truck (LBT), NCCCO-Telescopic Boom Crane-Swing Crab (TLL), Telescopic Boom Crane-Fixed Cab (TSS), NCCCO-Tower Crane(TWR), CIC-Small Telescoping Boom, CIC-Medium Telescoping Boom, CIC-Large Telescoping Boom, CIC-Lattice Boom Carrier, or CIC-Lattice Boom Crawler.

Responsibilities

  • Operators must be thoroughly familiar with crane control functions.
  • Operate crane to lift and move materials and other objects; plan all lifts; proper use of capacity charts; perform rigging inspection and daily equipment inspection including cables and grappling devices for wear and tear and assist in installing or repairing cables as needed.
  • Respond accordingly to both hand and verbal commands; observe the travel of all loads and take appropriate action to avoid injury to personnel or damage to property.
  • Listen to warning alarms and respond accordingly; read boom angle and drum rotation indicators.
  • Manipulates crane control to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
  • Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing, and oiling machines including cleaning and maintaining Crane, cables, and hoisting mechanism.
  • Follow inspection and maintenance schedule for equipment assuring that equipment is in good working order.
  • Perform daily inspections on crane prior to operation.
  • Assure that monthly and annual inspections are complete.
  • Assure that prior to lift the pre-lift safety checklist has been completed in its entirety.
  • Operators must have copies of their OCI Equipment Qualification certificate or equivalent Nationally recognized certification and their current Medical Examiner's Certificate on their person at all times.
  • Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested.
  • Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries.
  • Understand that no job is so important that your safety and that of your crew will be compromised.
  • Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional.
  • If needed, use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
  • Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
  • Understand, support, and follow lockout tag out procedures.
  • Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as outlined in training.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
  • Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations giving full attention to what they are saying and take the time to understand the points being made, asking questions and providing feedback when appropriate.
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
  • Provide on-the-job training and/or mentoring to helpers and laborers you are working with.
  • Read and understand plans, specifications, operator manuals, safety manuals, rigging tables and load capacity charts.
  • Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Fill out the OSHA required daily and monthly inspection reports as required for each interval.
  • Plan and lay-out for crane operators work.
  • Observe functioning of equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, repair or replacement.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered.
  • Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision.
  • Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
