About The Position

Assist journeyman in planning, lay-out and installing forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts for installation of concrete structures in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience working in the carpenter craft or similar craft as a helper.
  • Developing knowledge of industrial carpenter's craft including fabrication and erection of forms.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Must have all necessary tools as per Carpenter Helper Tool List.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts.
  • Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden forms, according to specifications for molding concrete structures.
  • Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms.
  • Insert spreaders and tie-rods between opposite pieces to maintain specific dimensions.
  • Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks and timber.
  • Build wooden structures such as scaffold supports and frame shelters according to specifications.
  • Help pour concrete into finished forms to specified textures; vibrate, level, smooth and shape surface of concrete.
  • Finish concrete surfaces to specifications.
  • Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer and patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
  • Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested.
  • Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries.
  • Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
  • Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions.
  • Identify safety hazards and take necessary corrective action to eliminate and/or mitigate hazards.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
  • Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as outlined in training.
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
  • Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations.
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
  • Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Learn to read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Visualize two dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Assist in planning, installing and/or repair structures in accordance with those plans and specifications.
  • Assist journeymen in laying out work and learn to perform layout independently.
  • Notify supervision of any hazards observed and utilize safety stop work authority as needed.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures.
  • Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision.
  • Ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and in good working order.
  • Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
