About The Position

The 2nd Year Apprentice - Network Journeyman position involves performing all types of work related to the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of underground transmission and distribution facilities. This includes network, URD, UG three-phase commercial, and UG station exits. The role requires adherence to safety rules and regulations, as well as the ability to report unsafe conditions. The apprentice will splice and repair energized and de-energized cables, perform terminations on complex electrical equipment, troubleshoot network protectors, and install transformers and protective devices. The position also involves directing crew members, participating in training, and conducting safety meetings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Minimum of 4 years experience performing duties of Network Apprentice 4th Yr. or equivalent.
  • Good working knowledge of circuit connections, voltage identification, phasing, transformer connections, and switching devices.
  • Ability to interpret field prints and switching diagrams.
  • Ability to deal with employees, customers, and the public in a courteous manner.
  • Ability to plan work and instruct others.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CDL state driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations, compliance procedures and practices.
  • Splice and repair all types of energized secondary cables and de-energized primary cables.
  • Perform underground primary and secondary voltage cable terminations on complex electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot network protectors and perform repairs as required.
  • Install and replace underground cable type current limiting devices, fuses, and other in-line protective devices.
  • Operate fault locating equipment to locate faults on failed primary network feeders.
  • Install transformers, network protectors, and other associated equipment.
  • Direct crew when assigned and exercise leadership and good judgement.
  • Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
  • Prepare, conduct and facilitate safety meetings.
