About The Position

The Pipe Fabricator position in Kaukauna, WI involves tacking together fittings and pipes according to isometric drawings and producing high-quality welds while gaining knowledge and experience through a five-year apprenticeship. The role requires following the apprenticeship training program and passing all requirements within set time frames. The fabricator will assemble pipe components, confirm the squareness and configuration of joints, verify correct lengths and materials, and perform various tasks including welding, cutting, grinding, and layout. Safety is a priority, and the work area must be kept clean and organized.

Requirements

  • One year of technical schooling or one year of fab shop welding or at least two union welding classes.
  • Ability to weld a six-inch standard or two-inch extra strong carbon steel pipe in the six-G position in 3 hours or less.
  • Ability to Mig root with down-hill progression/flux-core fill and cap with up-hill progression.
  • Tig out with all passes being up-hill progression.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and proportions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the Apprenticeship training program and pass all the requirements within the set time frames.
  • Assemble pipe components by tacking them in place prior to welding.
  • Confirm squareness of all joints fit up.
  • Confirm configuration of all joints fit up.
  • Confirm pipe joints are aligned properly.
  • Confirm pipe spool is built according to the isometric drawings.
  • Verify correct length, material, type, and grade of pipe and fittings prior to tacking.
  • Retrieve material and ensure they correspond with parts list.
  • Lift pipe with crane to fit-up bench.
  • Weld joints.
  • Grind out temporary tacks.
  • Position pieces to be welded.
  • Purge pipe to be welded.
  • Record filler rod heat numbers.
  • Identify own welds by etching a weld number next to the joint.
  • Inspect weld after and make any corrections if needed.
  • Keep work area clean and organized to prevent slips and trips.
  • Conduct work safely and follow all safety procedures.
