About The Position

The position at Vollrath Company involves utilizing skills and knowledge to build, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve tooling and procedures. The role requires operating all equipment, tools, and gauges in the tool room safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include laying out work and planning machining and bench procedures, performing difficult machining operations that require complicated setups, and improvising tooling and machines for adaptation beyond the normal ranges and capacities of available equipment. The position also involves cleaning and performing all daily and periodic maintenance necessary for the equipment, knowing the properties and uses of different metals and materials, and understanding feeds, speeds, coolant/lubricant, and compatible cutting tool materials. The role requires prioritizing jobs and working independently until completion, assuming a leadership role in an orderly investigation team, and properly documenting all findings and corrections. Additionally, the position requires reading and understanding customer part prints/blue prints and building tooling with proper dimensions, clearances & tolerances, fasteners, strippers, fool proofing, etc. The candidate will also program CNC equipment, weld different types of metals, heat treat various metals, and operate forklifts and computers.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a state journeyman tool & die apprenticeship or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all equipment, tools, and gauges in the tool room safely and efficiently.
  • Layout work and plan machining and bench procedures.
  • Perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated setups.
  • Improvising tooling and machines for adaptation beyond normal ranges and capacities.
  • Clean and perform all daily and periodic maintenance necessary for equipment.
  • Know the properties and uses of different metals and materials.
  • Understand feeds, speeds, coolant/lubricant, and compatible cutting tool materials.
  • Prioritize jobs and work independently and expeditiously until job is completed.
  • Assume leadership role in an orderly investigation team.
  • Document all findings and record all corrections or improvements.
  • Provide detailed drawings and sketches of alterations or modifications for engineering documentation.
  • Read and understand customer part prints/blue prints.
  • Build tooling with proper dimensions, clearances & tolerances, fasteners, strippers, fool proofing, etc.
  • Program CNC equipment.
  • Weld different types of metals.
  • Heat treat (harden, anneal, and normalize) different types of metals.
  • Operate forklifts, computers, and edit CNC programs.
