About The Position

The 2nd Shift Custodian position at Akima Facilities Operations involves performing custodial duties to maintain cleanliness and order in federal buildings. The role requires a combination of basic and advanced cleaning techniques, equipment operation, and the ability to work independently under general supervision. The custodian will also assist in training lower-level custodial workers and participate in special cleaning projects as needed.

Requirements

• 3 years' experience in custodial work.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic and advanced cleaning techniques and procedures.
• Skill in the use of custodial materials and chemicals, and in the operation of custodial equipment such as mop wringers and vacuum cleaners.
• Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Performs entry-level to moderate custodial work.
• Cleans and maintains the interior areas of federal buildings, including administrative areas, laboratories, and restrooms.
• Maintains custodial equipment and requests supplies as needed.
• Participates in minor equipment repairs and reports the need for repairs to custodial equipment and fixtures.
• Cleans various floor surfaces, including vinyl, ceramic tile, carpet, and wood.
• Dusts equipment, furniture, and fixtures; polishes metal fixtures and trimmings.
• Transports trash from collection points to pick-up areas and assists in cleaning emergency spills.
• Performs special cleaning projects in accordance with standard procedures and client objectives.
