The 2nd Press Operator is responsible for the set up and operation of press with emphasis on safety, productivity, quality, and good housekeeping. Consistently demonstrate proficiency and understanding in the use of data collection systems, job ticket, and daily production schedule. Work in conjunction with Press Operators and helpers on a 3-person crew in support of the manufacturing process. The schedule of three 12-hour shifts 6am - 6pm (36 hours/week) on Back Half of the week, with opportunities of overtime. Primary Duties: Read, understand, and ensure the accurate execution of the entire work order of every job and including the successful resolution of all discrepancies. Consistently demonstrate the ability to work with manufacturing management to achieve company goals including customer satisfaction and company profitability. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of the data collection system and display consistency and accuracy in meeting data collection requirements specified in the quality documentation and by management. Make ready according to production schedule, check color content of the job running, and notify manager/supervisor of issues, violations, or errors. Demonstrate willingness to accept directions from supervisors, management and peers to improve quality and performance. When appropriate, direct the work of the Press Helpers, including training and support as needed. Assist in inspecting sample copies to ensure they are of the highest quality, and that auto count printouts and computer entries are correct and accurate. See that all running samples are pulled, inspected, and initialed. Manage materials and supplies maximizing press efficiency & waste management Check paper consumption throughout the run (running waste, slab waste and damaged rolls). Work to always keep the entire press area clean, both during production runs and down time, using the resources of him/herself and others efficiently and ensuring the job and equipment requirements are efficiently and expeditiously met. Elevate unresolved or continuing problems to the appropriate crew members and/or Shift Supervisor. Perform these duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees. Successfully complete the department’s training program. Must be able to use a fork truck and/or clamp truck. Additional Responsibilities: Follow all safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to proper use of PPEs, safe ergonomic practices, and proper and safe handling of chemicals. Maintain working knowledge, awareness, and compliance with ISO Procedures. May require additional availability to work evenings and/or weekends. Other duties as assigned, including working where directed, be it on varying presses or in other departments.
