About The Position

The Second Grade Head Teacher fosters students' intellectual, social, and emotional development while inspiring trust, confidence, and curiosity. This role is responsible for cultivating a positive classroom culture that promotes independence, responsibility, and a love of learning. The Second Grade Teacher designs and implements an age-appropriate curriculum, manages the classroom environment effectively, communicates effectively with families, and creates a supportive and engaging learning experience for all students.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of Head Teacher experience required.
  • Strong understanding of child development.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and educational technology tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to push, pull, climb, stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Design and deliver instruction aligned with school-wide goals and individualized student learning outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain effective classroom systems, procedures, and routines that ensure student engagement and maximize instructional time.
  • Demonstrate commitment and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Collect, analyze, and track student data to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to support student growth and achievement.
  • Utilize a variety of research-based instructional strategies to actively engage learners.
  • Develop and implement both formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and refine instructional practices.
  • Evaluate student learning through project-based learning, performance tasks, and ongoing formative assessment.
  • Take responsibility for the academic progress of all students, developing intervention or enrichment plans as needed.
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with families regarding classroom activities and student progress; foster strong partnerships between home and school.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum, interdisciplinary projects, and instructional plans.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance and weekly grade updates in Veracross.
  • Model and uphold the school’s mission, vision, policies, ethical standards, and confidentiality expectations.
  • Support and reinforce school procedures, including supervision during transitions and dismissal.
  • Implement and promote all health and safety policies.
  • Model and uphold school-wide behavioral expectations and core values.
  • Prepare student reports and provide timely, meaningful feedback on academic and social growth.
  • Design and deliver presentations and communications to keep families informed and active.
  • Participate in school-sponsored extracurricular activities, including social events, athletics, clubs, and community programs.
  • Willingness to complete additional duties as assigned by the Head of School in support of instructional excellence.
