About The Position

Joining the Lower School team as a full-time 2nd Grade Homeroom Teacher is a rare opportunity to become part of Hammond's collaborative and student-centered community. This full-time 2nd grade homeroom teacher position begins in August 2026 and includes teaching across core content areas; building a positive, joyful homeroom community; and maintaining collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and parents. Hammond seeks instructional leaders who are experienced educators, thoughtful and intentional in their planning and instruction, and effective communicators. Hammond values teacher growth and provides ongoing professional development, collaborative planning time, and instructional support. Teachers are encouraged to bring creativity and innovation into their classrooms while working within a supportive, mission-driven environment. Experience with programs such as Apple technologies, design-based learning, Handwriting Without Tears, Reveal Math, Phonics, Being a Reader, and Being a Writer, or similar programs, is beneficial but not required. Required: Bachelor's degree or higher in Elementary Education and/or related field. Graduate work is preferred. Reporting: Prekindergarten through 4th grade Homeroom Teachers report to the Head of Lower School.
