Colonna's Shipyard West (CSW), a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a 2nd Class Outside Machinist to support operations in Chula Vista, CA. The role involves disassembling various types of equipment and machinery common to maritime vessels and/or general industry including but not limited to pumps, valves, winches, and gear boxes. The machinist will assist in determining repairs required to bring equipment to rebuilt status, setup and operate drill presses, and apply knowledge of materials such as bronze, brass, steel (mild and heat-treated), and stainless steels in fabrication and repairs. Responsibilities also include the proper care and safe use of hand and power tools, working with other crafts as needed, and performing overhaul, maintenance, and testing of various equipment.

  • Disassemble various types of equipment and machinery common to maritime vessels and/or general industry.
  • Assist in determining repairs required to bring equipment to rebuilt status.
  • Setup and operate drill presses.
  • Apply knowledge of materials in fabrication and repairs.
  • Care for and safely use hand and power tools and all company property.
  • Work with other crafts as needed.
  • Overhaul, maintain, and test pumps, valves, turbines, condensers, shafts, rudders, winches.
  • Lay out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections.
  • Install below deck auxiliaries and connect them to steam pipe systems.
  • Remove, repair, modify, or overhaul various types of marine shipboard equipment.
  • Set up and operate portable machining tools and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair a variety of mechanical equipment.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years' experience as a Marine Outside Machinist or other relevant experience.
  • Ability to disassemble, repair, and install various types of equipment and machinery.
  • Capability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Ability to apply basic machine shop math.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
