About the position

The Assistant Coach for Softball at Loyola University Chicago is responsible for assisting in team coaching, preparing the team for competition, and supporting the individual development of student-athletes. This role includes monitoring the academic, social, and personal growth of softball student-athletes, as well as identifying and recruiting talented individuals for the program. The Assistant Coach will coordinate team travel for competitions and recruitment, promote the program by building relationships with alumni and community members, and assist in planning camps and clinics. Additionally, the Assistant Coach will ensure compliance with NCAA and university policies and perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics and Recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in team coaching and preparing the team for competition.
  • Support individual student-athlete development.
  • Monitor academic, social, and personal development of softball student-athletes.
  • Identify and recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes.
  • Coordinate team and individual travel for competitions and recruitment.
  • Promote and develop the program by maintaining relationships with alumni, donors, and community members.
  • Plan and implement camps and clinics.
  • Participate in events as a representative of the department and softball program.
  • Coordinate and monitor student-athletes' academic progress.
  • Maintain knowledge of NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference, and university compliance issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Two years of collegiate coaching experience in designated sport required.
  • Understanding of and compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Commitment to the mission of Jesuit higher education.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 3 years of successful coaching experience and/or playing experience at the NCAA level.
  • Emphasis on coaching and recruiting pitchers.
  • Experience with fiscal management and daily operations of an intercollegiate athletics department.
