About The Position

The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Professional is responsible for assisting the Golf Shop Manager and Head Golf Professional in the day-to-day operations at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. These duties include supervision and management of part-time staff relating to the revenue operations, golf pro shop, golf instruction programs and lessons, and assistance in personnel training.

Requirements

  • PGA/LPGA Class A certification or in the process of obtaining an A-8 classification.
  • Under unusual circumstances, extensive direct experience may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirements.
  • General knowledge of merchandising, golf equipment and fittings.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Strong computer skills, personnel administration, budget preparation and facilities management is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate good safety awareness and judgment.
  • Must be proficient in communicating in group and individual situations that reflect favorably on the facility.
  • Ability to represent the Forest Preserves in a professional manner, enforce Forest Preserve rules of conduct and inform appropriate authority if patrons or employees are endangered.
  • Ability to work with people from all backgrounds, skill, and age levels is required.
  • Ability to occasionally golf with customers at home course or in local Pro-Ams.
  • The role requires the ability to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time. Normal duties involve frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and climbing, as well as the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. This position requires the regular use of a computer, necessitating repetitive wrist and hand motion and frequent visual focus.
  • Ability to talk and hear or otherwise effectively communicate with staff and patrons is required. Visual acuity necessary for this position includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Personnel must adhere to company safety standards, including the mandatory wearing of essential safety equipment and compliance with the company dress code policy while on duty.
  • There will be occasional exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of Forest Preserve vehicles.
  • Ensure a professional flow of activities in the daily conduct of pro shop business, including opening, interim and closing procedures.
  • Assist in developing and improving lesson and program schedules.
  • Assist with responsibility for revenue operations including, but not limited to, all fee play on golf courses, all Pro Shop and course concessions, cart rental, golf learning centers, driving and practice ranges, and any program, outing, tournament or additional functions held at a golf course facility.
  • Assist in creating programs and planning promotions through advertisements and appropriate media sources.
  • Maintain an awareness of current trends in golf to be incorporated as part of the mission of the Forest Preserves.
  • When directed, supervise the work of all part-time and/or seasonal staff relating to the revenue operations of the golf course. This includes assistance in scheduling, training, and evaluating.
  • Assist in performing and documenting safety orientation for part-time staff and volunteers when applicable.
  • Assist in organizing leagues and tournaments at the golf course for different ability levels and ages.
  • Assist in preparation of periodic and special reports.
  • Assist in daily cash controls and record keeping, including daily reporting.
  • Maintain neat appearance of all items for sale in pro shop.
  • Process, display, and maintain inventory of all necessary pro shop items, and advise on ordering and re-stocking needs.
  • Assist in keeping daily attendance, receipts, membership, lesson sign-up and other miscellaneous statistics as necessary for the operation and management of the golf course facility.
  • Interpret community needs and interests, as well as possess the ability to grasp ideas and concepts, analyze and implement them.
  • Possess the ability to organize, prepare and present, both written and verbally, information to groups and individuals.
  • Work around general population and able to deal with people under stressful conditions. May need to resolve conflicts and differences.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the organizational values of Stewardship, Community, and Discovery by caring for our resources, fostering inclusive experiences, and inspiring curiosity through this position’s work.
  • Assist with Forest Preserve special events and committees.
  • Assist in the Forest Preserve’s responsibilities of compliance with ADA.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
