About The Position

Lower/Middle School has an immediate opening for a 2-6th math specialist. This position will support our recent efforts to differentiate and enrich our math program. Our educational philosophy focuses on helping students develop the skills necessary to succeed as responsible global citizens in the 21st century. We’d love you to join our faculty and create classrooms that seek to inspire in our students a lifelong love of learning by encouraging them to participate in experiential opportunities, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, build empathy and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real world problems and performances. In addition to classroom expectations, faculty also take on community duties and participate in the life of the community. Classroom-centered responsibilities Scheduled one to two times a week into each 2nd-6th math classroom to do student pull-out for enrichment or remediation- would work in conjunction with the student needs identified by the classroom teacher and log weekly classrooms activities Meet with 2nd-6th grade classroom teachers to discuss support needs and to suggest enrichment and remediation materials Observe teacher and provide feedback as well as coaching on approach and instruction in math Other Lower and Middle School Job Responsibilities Work with teachers and administrators in interpreting CTP/Milestones data and designing approaches to improve student achievement and instruction; provide summary reports to Head of Lower and Middle School Attend Lower/Middle division or grade level meetings, when needed, and math department meetings Work with math department to assess the efficacy of the math curriculum Attend and provide professional development workshops in the area of math differentiation including Youcube, etc. Research best practices in math and co-create math curriculum from the Upper Elementary and into Middle School Create opportunities for K-8 math experiences, including estimation challenges, the Julia Robinson Math Festival, and others.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success partnering with parents to support the educational needs of their students.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills
  • Flexible in pedagogical approach, using multiple modalities to deliver a concept
  • Clear desire to use a variety of teaching approaches in order to reach different student populations and adapt to better serve their learning styles and needsIntegrates technology to enhance the student experience
  • Practiced in differentiated instruction
  • Demonstrated understanding of curriculum design, pedagogical approaches and developmental appropriateness in order to deliver engaging, active, student-centered lessons, practice, and assessment
  • Familiar with and uses different kinds of assessment (formative and summative)
  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Mathematics or Math Education
  • Minimum 5 years experience teaching at the primary elementary level
  • Strong academic background, experience in multicultural education and an awareness of ecological literacy
  • Genuine fondness for working with students of this age
  • Must provide clearance background screening, TB and SB848
