Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, has partnered with the Department of Defense (DOD) to offer a FREE 16-week training opportunity at The Institute of Advanced and Learning and Research in Danville, VA. This is an unpaid opportunity, however the training and lodging/housing in Danville, VA will be provided and paid for by a grant from the Department of Defense. All housing and utilities for this training is covered by the program, and all participants will be housed in downtown Danville's River district. Participants will be responsible for all other living expenses including meals, etc. NDT stands for Non-Destructive Testing. At NNS it refers to the inspection of WELDS using methods that allow inspectors to evaluate and collect data about a WELD or welded component without permanently altering/damaging/destroying it. The 16-week/600 hour training program will cover safety, an introduction to all methods of NDT (Non Destructive Testing) including Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), and Radiation Safety. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) functions as a support department to the shipyard providing all NDT required by specifications, drawings, Standard Procedures, and Regulatory Agencies.
