About The Position

The Tenure Track Faculty of Music Education at West Chester University is a full-time position beginning in August 2025. The role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, focusing on innovative and inclusive teaching practices that cater to diverse learning styles. Requirements

  • Doctorate in Music Education or a closely related field (ABD may be considered, must be completed by the time of appointment).
  • Experience teaching PK-12 students in creative classroom settings within a recognized educational institution or accredited program.
  • Experience teaching music in creative classroom settings (e.g., songwriting, music technology, music production, etc.).
  • Record of scholarly activity, presentations, creative work, and publications in music education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching at the college/university level, particularly in music teacher education programs.
  • Experience mentoring pre-service or in-service music teachers in a variety of educational contexts.
  • An established or emerging agenda of research, creative endeavors, or scholarly engagement in music education, with the potential for national or international recognition.
  • Expertise in culturally sustaining or equity-centered pedagogies, with evidence of applying these approaches in music education settings.
  • Experience with community partnerships or outreach efforts that support music education initiatives beyond the classroom.
  • Proficiency in digital audio workstations (DAWs), sound engineering, or other advanced music technology tools.
  • Familiarity with diverse musical traditions and world music, and the ability to incorporate them into curriculum and instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, emphasizing student-centered approaches in diverse settings.
  • Design and implement innovative, inclusive, and progressive curricula that address the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Integrate technology, creative music-making, and equity-centered or culturally sustaining pedagogies into teaching practices.
  • Maintain an active agenda of research, creative work, and/or scholarly engagement.
  • Participate in community partnerships, recruitment, and outreach to promote music education and the department's initiatives.
  • Serve the College, University, and the community through participation in various committees, recruitment, and outreach efforts.
  • Mentor and advise students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
