The Department of Secondary Education and K-12 Health and Physical Education invites applicants for a Full-Time, Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Education position. The position begins in August 2025. Requirements

  • A doctorate in Physical Education, Health Education, or Curriculum & Instruction, or closely related educational discipline. ABD may be considered - must be completed on or before August 2025.
  • At least three years teaching experience at the K-12 level.
  • Teaching certification (current or expired) in health and physical education.
  • Ability to teach Health and Physical Education content and pedagogical course.
  • Ability to supervise Health and Physical Education student teachers.
  • Record of scholarship in the Health and/or Physical Education field (traditional or applied).
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing & verbal, and present dynamically to a variety of constituents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working directly with K-12 teachers including mentoring, training, and professional development.
  • Experience supervising and/or mentoring student teachers.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate/graduate Health and Physical Education courses.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a Health and Physical Education along with doctorate degree as described above.
  • Experience authoring and/or co-authoring grant funding.
  • Experience in curriculum development at the K12 or undergraduate/graduate level.
  • Experience assessing teacher education candidates or program for accreditation.
  • Experience integrating technology in teaching methods.
  • Membership and/or involvement with Health and Physical Education professional organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in the Health and Physical Education program.
  • Contribute to curriculum development.
  • Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications.
  • Supervise student teachers and interns.
  • Mentor and advise students.
  • Serve the College, University, and the community through participation in various committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
