About The Position

The Teacher position is aimed at helping students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals. The role involves providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully obtain a valid high school diploma based on criteria established by local and state boards of education.

Requirements

  • A valid teacher certificate in the field of assignment.
  • Additional certification requirements as set by the Maryland State Department of Education or TCPS Board of Education.
  • Alternates and additions to qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media based on student needs.
  • Implements the board's philosophy of education through instruction and action.
  • Takes necessary precautions to protect students and materials.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law and board policy.
  • Enforces school rules and administrative regulations.
  • Makes provisions to be available to students and parents outside instructional hours.
  • Creates a conducive classroom environment for learning.
  • Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives.
  • Assesses student accomplishments using formative and summative assessments.
  • Provides student progress reports as required.
  • Assists administration in implementing policies governing student conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as required.
  • Cooperates with staff in planning instructional goals and methods.
  • Assists in selecting instructional materials.
  • Shares responsibility for non-instructional duties as assigned.
  • Establishes open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
  • Maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Pursues professional growth through reading, workshops, and advanced coursework.
  • Uses sensory skills to communicate and interact effectively.
  • Operates office-related equipment and technology tools.
  • Moves around the classroom and participates in physical interventions if necessary.
