About The Position

The 25/26 SY Teacher for Special Education - Deaf Education at Zia Middle School is responsible for providing specialized instruction to students with hearing impairments. This role requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and adapting teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students. The teacher will work collaboratively with other educators and support staff to ensure that all students receive the necessary resources and support to succeed academically and socially.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in education from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Valid New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) Teaching License.
  • Valid New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) Special Education License.
  • Recommendation from degree-granting institution and/or previous employing institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with hearing impairments.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology for deaf education.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized instruction to students with hearing impairments.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices.
  • Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student needs and progress.
