About The Position

The position involves providing interpreting services for individuals with hearing impairments. The role is essential in facilitating communication between those who can hear and those who are deaf or hearing impaired. The interpreter will be responsible for tutoring hearing impaired students and preparing for classes by reviewing subject matter and vocabulary. Additionally, the interpreter will research information for special events and utilize various electronic devices to enhance understanding. The role requires coordination with other staff and maintaining a good rapport with students and community members while adhering to ethical standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Completion of an Interpreter Training Program.
• One (1) year of providing instructional interpretation in a school environment.
• Valid CPR First Aid certification.
• Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Responsibilities

• Provides educational, social and informational interpreting services for the deaf and hearing impaired.
• Tutors hearing impaired students utilizing a variety of forms of non-verbal and voice communications.
• Reviews, prepares and becomes familiar with subject matter, vocabulary and terms to prepare for upcoming classes.
• Researches information to prepare for special assemblies, concerts, plays and/or field trips.
• Uses a variety of modalities and electronic devices to enhance understanding.
• Coordinates with other staff members providing services to students.
• Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
• Performs other job related duties as assigned.
