About The Position

The Substitute Teacher position is responsible for maintaining a positive learning environment and responding to the individual needs of students in the absence of the regular instructor. The teacher will implement effective lessons, ensure that district policies are observed, and create a safe classroom environment conducive to learning. The role requires supervision of all children in the classroom at all times and familiarity with emergency procedures such as fire exits and severe weather protocols. The substitute teacher must also maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and demonstrate adaptability and good judgment during assignments.

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
  • Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
  • Ensure that District policies are observed during all activities.
  • Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
  • Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.
  • Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances and exhibit good judgment.
  • Report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Leave detailed notes for the teacher on any issues experienced during the day.

Benefits

  • $250 rate for Monday & Friday
  • $225 rate for Tuesday-Thursday
  • $500 bonus after 30 full time days (225 hours)
  • $250 bonus for each 15 full time days after (112.50 hours)
