About The Position

The Director of English Language Development (ELD) at Bright Star Schools will play a pivotal role in enhancing the academic performance of English learners through the design, implementation, and enhancement of instructional strategies. This position requires close collaboration with school site administrators, ELD Coordinators, cluster data teams, and other team members to develop effective strategies that drive student achievement, ensure equity and access, and close the achievement gap. The Director will utilize both formative and summative data to support and monitor language acquisition and intervention programs, increase rigor, and foster continuous improvement. A strong commitment to educational equity, leadership skills, and expertise in second language acquisition are essential for success in this role. Bright Star Schools is a free, publicly funded, and open enrollment non-profit organization with seven public charters in urban Los Angeles. The organization serves a diverse student population, with over 90% of students eligible for free and reduced lunch. The mission of Bright Star Schools is to provide holistic, inclusive support for all students to achieve academic excellence and grow their unique talents, preparing them for higher education, career, and life. The Director will also be responsible for developing a shared vision around literacy, creating a multi-year plan for literacy programs, and conducting needs assessments to inform goal setting and training. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure that student language proficiency is assessed and aligned supports are implemented across all schools. The Director will provide professional development on ELD curriculum and research-based practices, support the implementation of the district's EL Master plan, and facilitate professional learning for teachers on English Language Development. Additionally, the Director will coordinate assessment processes and ensure compliance with state accountability requirements, all while upholding the mission and values of Bright Star Schools.
