About The Position

This is specialized work performed in a school after normal school hours. Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school. Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands. Creativity and “out of the box” experiences for reading and math are encouraged.

Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain the certification requirements as established by the Virginia Department of Education
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in the fields of reading and mathematics
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching.
  • Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and to prepare well-written reports.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches reading and/or mathematics to small groups of scholars in a classroom, utilizing acceptable teaching methods.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material that meet the needs of the assigned group.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experience so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Evaluates the academic progress of the assigned scholars.
  • Communicates with all 21st CCLC stakeholders to discuss student progress and provide feedback on the program’s initiatives.
  • Participates cooperatively with the 21st CCLC Site Coordinators and other staff members.
