About The Position

The Underwriting Summer Internship Program at UWM provides a valuable opportunity for students interested in the financial and mortgage industry to gain practical experience in mortgage underwriting. Interns will work closely with UWM's underwriting team, learning the intricacies of assessing loan applications and gaining valuable insight into the decision-making process. The Risk Team Summer Internship Program at UWM will allow interns to assist the Risk Management team in identifying, assessing, and mitigating various risks associated with UWM's operations. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in risk analysis, compliance, and operational assessments within the mortgage industry.

Requirements

• Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2026 or 2027 (current junior/senior status)
• The ability to work Monday thru Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from May 18th - August 7th

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Have a passion for training and development
• Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Finance, Auditing, Accounting, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or similar
• Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a similar field

Responsibilities

• Audit loan files for specific criteria by conducting SWAT reviews, including risk analysis
• Create reports and present findings to Senior Leadership
• Analyze data to help the business as a whole
• Create and enhance training materials
• Assist our Underwriting Training team with classroom enrollments and other various data projects
• Analyze hiring trends and their impact on the team
• Work in Microsoft Office products and PowerBI
• Create reporting dashboards to be used by Senior Leadership
• Facilitate fun and friendship activities for the team
• Assist in conducting risk assessments and evaluations for various business operations and processes
• Support the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures
• Conduct research on industry trends and best practices related to risk management
• Help analyze data and prepare reports on risk exposures and mitigation strategies
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on risk management initiatives
• Assist in monitoring compliance with risk policies and regulatory requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned by members of the Risk team
