This program offers university and graduate students hands-on experience through project-based work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Throughout the program, Interns will have exposure to mentorship, networking, and professional development opportunities. This internship will support the Systems Engineering department with projects involving space camera design and/or the Sun Sensor product line.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Engineering or Physics, preferably with focus on Electrical or Optical engineering
  • Broad understanding of engineering principles
  • Proficient with a subset of engineering design software, such as 3D CAD modeling (Solidworks), electrical design (Altium), requirements management (JAMA), software coding (Python, C#, Matlab, etc.)
  • Hands-on lab experience and proficiency with engineering test equipment
  • Strong communication and critical thinking skills, problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Ability to travel for in-person orientation and program kickoff as well as for final presentation at program completion
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for requirement review, decomposition, and derivation
  • Assist with risk analysis and interface definition including mechanical, electrical, and software
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering teams and other internal teams including business development and project management
  • Participate in test methodologies and procedures
  • Support system integration activities
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement and operational efficiency
