About The Position

Our internship program is designed for full-time students currently enrolled at an accredited four-year university and recent graduates in North America. These are temporary full-time paid positions that usually run from May through August. This position is not eligible for Freeport-McMoRan immigration work visa sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full-time at an accredited four-year university pursuing a degree in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field.
  • Recent graduate (within 12 months prior to internship start date) with a degree in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, organizational skills, and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with a mentor in Health & Safety and/or Industrial Hygiene.
  • Interact with company leaders to discuss steps to reduce workplace exposure.
  • Evaluate health & safety risks and determine mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Attend daily lineout meetings to cover safety topics.
  • Support incident investigations to determine root causes.
  • Inspect work areas for safety compliance.
  • Help onboard contract employees.
  • Investigate and develop emergency response and evacuation plans.
  • Engage with workforce to raise awareness of health & safety policies.
  • Educate on health and safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Maintain a presence in the field to support employees.
  • Work on projects related to identifying and mitigating hazards.
