Major League Baseball's Summer Internship Program is designed to provide exceptional students interested in a career in sports with a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the diverse business operations of baseball. Those selected will gain invaluable work experience through challenging project assignments, information sessions hosted by MLB senior management, and various developmental events. The Baseball Operations Department is responsible for overseeing and administering all on-field and rules components of MLB. The Baseball Operations Department consists of several groups, including Amateur, Baseball Economics, Draft Operations, Medical, Minor Leagues, On-Field Operations, Player Programs, Transactions, and Umpiring. Summer interns in the Baseball Operations Department will work primarily in one of the aforementioned groups and will have an opportunity to work on projects relating to: The MLB Draft and MLB Draft Combine Salary arbitration Major League transactions Minor League transactions and operations The trade deadline International amateur signings Club payrolls Player contract structures Medical studies Pace-of-play and new rules Bat regulations and on-field equipment On-field technology Strategic initiatives
