About The Position

An internship position is available for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join the laboratory of Haiyang Yu in the Department of Neuroscience at Genentech. The Yu lab investigates the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, with a focus on liquid-liquid phase separation and protein homeostasis. This position will focus on the dynamic composition of RNA granules in neurons to elucidate the pathobiology of many neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease and ALS. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site. Contribute to a highly innovative project and collaborate productively with researchers across departments at Genentech. Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
  • Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Neuroscience or a related field with specialization in live cell imaging or RNA Biology.
  • Experience in molecular and cell biology of liquid-liquid phase separation with hands- on experience in live cell imaging.
  • Experience in technologies to determine RNA-protein interactions, such as CLIP-seq.
  • Ability of bioinformatic analyses on sequencing results is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of neurodegeneration, particularly related to RNA metabolism and RNA-binding proteins.
  • An independent and resilient scientist with a strong intrinsic drive who excels in a fast paced research environment.
