About The Position

The 2026 Summer Intern - Underwriting & Portfolio Management position is part of the Commercial Summer Internship Program at Citizens Bank, designed to provide interns with exposure to the bank's culture and various commercial banking business lines through project-based assignments, learning curriculum, networking, volunteer opportunities, and formal mentorship. Interns will work within the Underwriting and Portfolio Management (U&PM) team, focusing on underwriting credit requests and managing the bank's portfolio. The internship lasts for 10 weeks, starting in May 2026, and high performers may receive early consideration for the Commercial Banker Development Program (CBDP).

Requirements

  • Current students enrolled in an undergraduate bachelor's program, graduating between Winter 2026 - Spring 2027 OR current students enrolled in a graduate program, graduating between Winter 2026 - Spring 2027.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.2; Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.5.
  • Relevant work experience, leadership experience or coursework in Finance, Accounting or Economics is preferred but all majors will be considered.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Candidates must currently be a U.S. Resident to be eligible for this program.

Responsibilities

  • Support Portfolio Managers, Credit Analysts, and Relationship Managers in new loan transaction underwriting, loan monitoring, and business development activities.
  • Monitor the receipt and accuracy of client reporting including financial statements, covenant compliance certificates, and collateral requirements.
  • Assist in credit analysis, preparation of deal screening memos, new credit approval requests, loan closings, and annual reviews of existing client relationships.
  • Learn and prepare financial models, conduct industry research, and prepare written summaries of industry issues, risks, opportunities, and the competitive environment.
  • Perform market analysis and assist in the development of commercial client prospect lists as needed.
  • Participate in Team Meetings, Capital Markets calls, and broader Commercial Banking calls.
  • Participate in client meetings or conference calls.
  • Network within the commercial bank and ask questions about specific roles.
  • Complete other tasks and special projects as required.
