About The Position

If you are an undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis, then we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team this summer in Bloomington, Minnesota! As a member of our Rail-Structural team, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplined team of architecture and engineering professionals to provide services for Class I, short line, and passenger railroads throughout the country. From schematic design through construction, you will become engaged in the full life cycle of a variety of structural projects including industrial and maintenance facilities, locomotive fueling stations, bulk handling structures, and administration buildings. Throughout your internship, you will have the opportunity to conduct site assessments, prepare design calculations, develop construction cost estimates, and contribute to the development of preliminary and final designs using AutoCAD and other design applications. Our goal will be to expose you to the various stages of a project life cycle from conception through construction so you have a better understanding of the work we do, how we do it, and more importantly, what it would be like to be an engineering consultant.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Previous experience or formal training with AutoCAD.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed for project assignments, team meetings, site visits, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coursework or project assignments related to structural design.
  • General understanding of drafting techniques and construction plan development practices.
  • Previous experience with RISA or Revit.
