The Graduate Summer Associate Program gives graduate students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution. Through dynamic, project-based work assignments and professional development activities, students get: A cohort-based learning model with a strong sense of community, real-world experience that helps them build strong skills and knowledge in their area of interest, the chance to contribute to meaningful work that makes an impact on the lives of all Americans, opportunities to meet, network with, and work alongside our mission-driven, curious colleagues—all of whom are happy to share their experiences and advice, an experienced professional mentor to support them throughout the program, and access to learning events with senior leaders from the New York Fed and other notable institutions, giving them direct insight into the public service and financial services world. Graduate interns work in one specific business area or function for ten weeks, and have access to opportunities for collaboration with other students and employees from around the Bank. At the end of the program, students leave with strong skills, professional connections, and meaningful experiences that will support them in their long-term careers.

Requirements

  • Expected graduation between Winter 2026 and Spring 2027.
  • Strong understanding of research methodologies and analytical techniques.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to gather and analyze information, enrich a topic, prove/disprove a hypothesis, and create a narrative.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with an ability to scope a business problem and develop creative viable options for solving it.
  • Keen interest in learning and working with new research tools, methodologies, and technologies, with a capacity to learn quickly and adapt to new situations.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present research findings and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute and work alongside a team of researchers, analysts, strategists, and technologists with common goals in research and development.
  • Support the NYIC team in aligning on strategic objectives and the achievement of key outcomes.
  • Collaborate with others to develop business cases, implementation plans, and/or key metrics to support the execution of strategic objectives.
  • Conduct thorough technical and market research to identify innovative solutions and emerging technologies relevant to central banking.
  • Analyze data and trends to provide insights and recommendations for potential applications of new technologies.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate research findings and strategic recommendations.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in financial technology and innovation, providing regular updates and insights to the team.

Benefits

  • This is a paid internship.
  • Salary Range: Your regular wages for the 10 weeks will be paid on a semi-monthly basis and will be calculated based on an annual salary of $94,900.
