About The Position

The newly formed Genetic Medicine Technology group in gRED (Genentech Research and Early Development) is redefining the future of cell and gene therapies. Our proprietary non-viral gene delivery and gene editing platforms serve as a versatile foundation for a wide range of therapeutic modalities, with potential applications extending across a broad spectrum of oncology and genetic diseases. We are committed to building a world-class organization that bridges the gap between early-stage technology discovery and life-changing clinical applications. Within this group, the Precision Gene Editing team focuses on the engineering and optimization of next-generation genome editing technologies. Our team’s mission is to discover and develop novel enzymes—including transposases, recombinases, and CRISPR-associated nucleases—to enhance the efficiency and safety of DNA manipulation for our proprietary gene insertion platforms. By integrating rational design, structure-guided computational methods, and directed evolution, we are building a sophisticated protein engineering toolbox designed to manipulate mammalian genomes with unprecedented efficiency and specificity. This internship position is located in San Diego, CA, on-site.
