About The Position

This role is in Early Development Biometrics (EDB), a core function within Product Development Data Sciences (PDD) that provides strategic leadership and scientific rigor across early clinical development at Roche. We partner across Biostatistics, Analytical Data Science, and Data Management to enable data-driven decision-making from first-in-human through proof-of-concept studies. As trusted partners in early development, we design efficient and innovative clinical trials, apply rigorous statistical methods, and implement high-quality programming and analytical solutions to accelerate timelines, de-risk development, and increase the probability of technical success. Our integrated teams operate with agility and scientific depth, supporting exploratory analyses, early regulatory engagements, and complex data-generation needs across therapeutic areas. Together, we bring scientific rigor, technical innovation, and strategic insight to shape the future of early development and deliver better outcomes for patients. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
  • Required Majors: Quantitative field, including computer science, biomedical engineering, mathematics, physics etc.
  • Required Skills: Familiar with Python and HPC environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement a cross-study data standard for raw inputs from Microperimetry, standard automated perimetry, and VR perimetry (file formats, metadata, naming conventions, and required fields).
  • Define and implement cross-study data standards for extracted outputs (e.g., sensitivity maps, global indices, pointwise measures, reliability metrics), including units, derivations, and provenance.
  • Build and document an end-to-end data processing workflow (ingestion → validation → transformation → standard datasets) to enable scalable reuse across existing and upcoming studies.
  • Collaborate with Biostatistics, Analytical Data Science, and Data Management partners to gather requirements, iterate on standards, and ensure downstream analysis compatibility.
  • Support exploratory analyses to demonstrate the utility of the standard (e.g., cross-sectional and longitudinal correlations between functional outcomes and OCT structure metrics), and summarize findings for stakeholders.
