Our team, GM's AV ( Autonomous Vehicles ) organization, collaborates closely with the Operations Team. Our primary function is to develop and implement products that help them efficiently manage our extensive data collection vehicle fleet. This role is well-suited for individuals who have a strong product focus and a consistent drive to meet customer needs. We also incorporate generative AI into both our development tools and the products we create. We are looking for an intern with strong engineering fundamentals and who is passionate about e nabling effective business operations. As a member of this team, we are looking for someone who cares deeply about the quality of software and products the team owns. The way thi s engineer will deliver impact may vary depending on the situation but they will be expected to partner effectively with other engineers, take feedback and guidance from more experienced team members, and deliver effective and reliable solutions to tasks at hand.

  • Develop and maintain software for mana gi ng diverse fleets of GM vehicles (R&D and production).
  • Optimize sof tware perfo rmance and reliability for real-world deployment
  • Leverage the gui danc e and experience of more senior engineers on the team to identify engineering pain points and implement solutions that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Effectively communicate the status of their work.
  • Follow software engineering best practices within your team.
  • Contribute to the engineering cultur e on the t eam.
  • Contribute to real-world services and gain practical experience with Go, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, GCP , and supporting tools such as Buildkite and OpenTelemetry
  • Curre ntly e nrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program and in the process of obtaining a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Academic exposure to distributed systems concepts, including scalability, reliability, or fault tolerance .
  • Experience writing Go, Python, or similar languages through coursework, internships, or project work
  • Understa nding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per w eek.
  • Attention to detail, and a desire to improve processes and systems around you.
  • Experience with GCP.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
