Job Summary Geoscience Summer Interns will interpret subsurface geoscience and related data to help with our hydrocarbon exploration and development projects during 12-week summer internship. They will work with a mentor and a group of other professionals to make recommendations for further activities related to basin studies, prospects and/or field development. Interns will have the opportunity to interact with other interns and Murphy professionals working on a variety of projects to learn about all aspects of the industry. Current Geoscience Summer Internship positions are available in our Exploration and Subsurface, Offshore and Onshore Development Teams located in Murphy Oil Corp's corporate office in Houston, Texas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Geophysics or currently enrolled in a master's program or higher in Geology, Geophysics.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program for the duration of the internship
  • Candidates for this U.S. position must be a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee or asylee.
  • Individuals with temporary visas such as A, B, C, D, E, F (F1-Academic Student), G, H (H1-B), I, J, L, M (M1-Vocational Student), NATO, O, P, Q, R or TN or who need sponsorship for work authorization in the United States now or in the future, are not eligible for hire
  • Minimum of twelve (12) continuous weeks' availability for internship
  • The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions.
  • Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs.
  • The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Development Interns should have a background with a heavy emphasis on stratigraphy and deep-water depositional systems.
  • Exploration Interns should have experience in 3D seismic interpretation, structural geology, basin modeling, and/or rock physics.

Responsibilities

  • Development Interns may conduct reservoir studies that will include interpretation of 3D seismic data, analyzing well logs, etc. with a geoscientist to draft cross-sections, structure/net pay maps, and amplitude maps to quantify the oil and gas reserves of a developing field.
  • Exploration Interns should have experience in 3D seismic interpretation, structural geology, basin modeling, and/or rock physics. They will interpret well log data, 3D seismic data, perform amplitude analyses, assist in the creation of regional basin models, and/or assist in maturation efforts over our exploration acreage in the US GOM and Internationally.
