Summer Law Student Intern Job Description: The Starr Insurance Office of the General Counsel is seeking a qualified law student with a desire to learn about risk management, the commercial insurance industry, and the overall corporate legal environment to join our department in our New York City office for a summer law student internship from June - August 2026. This position is part of the Starr Insurance Summer Intern program which delivers opportunities to develop professionally in a corporate workplace. This includes programming built to improve presentation, networking, communication, and other non-technical skills as well as the opportunity to interact with other interns in an intensive 9-week training program that provides exposure to different full-time career opportunities at Starr Insurance.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an ABA accredited law school program
  • Demonstrated academic success at undergraduate level
  • Strong research, writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with legal research tools and databases
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research and analyze case law
  • Draft legal documents, including contracts, memos, board resolutions, etc.
  • Prepare legal memoranda and other legal documents as needed
  • Collaborate on projects in the legal practice areas of Compliance, Corporate Governance, Insurance Regulatory and Contract law
  • Assist attorneys as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of work
  • Opportunity to present a final Capstone project capturing key takeaways and provide a point of accumulation of knowledge and skills learned throughout the summer.
