About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineering intern in the Systems Business Unit at MKS, you will partner with a team of engineers, and technicians, to develop and test precision laser-based processing equipment for high-volume manufacturing of rigid and flexible circuit boards in the consumer electronics industry. In this role, you will report to the Central Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • CAD Software Proficiency. Siemens NX CAD experience is a bonus
  • Prototyping & Fabrication: Basic familiarity with manufacturing operations including machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, and lab/shop tools
  • Mathematical & Analytical Skills: Strong foundation in mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science
  • Engineering Drawing & GD&T: Ability to read and create technical drawings with proper tolerancing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or proficiency with NX CAD software
  • FEA/CAE Tools: Ansys or Siemens Simcenter
  • Programming: Basic knowledge of MATLAB or Python may be useful

Responsibilities

  • Creating and modifying 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical components and assemblies using NX CAD software
  • Assist in the design and test of various subsystems which may include opto-mechanical mounting, sheet metal covers, pneumatics assemblies, electronics enclosures, and coolant delivery systems.
  • Perform basic tolerance stack-ups and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure fit and function.
  • Support prototype builds, including hands-on assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct mechanical testing (e.g., vibration, thermal, alignment) and document results.
