About The Position

The team at Advanced Space is leading humanity back to the Moon and pioneering innovative solutions in the space industry. Based in Westminster, Colorado, this incredible team is looking for 2026 Software Engineering Summer Intern to join our software engineering team. Interns will be paired with a member of the technical staff, who will provide mentorship and oversee their summer projects. This internship provides hands-on experience in software development and research, offering opportunities to contribute to meaningful space exploration initiatives. Typically, our software engineering interns are advanced undergraduate students who have taken classes on machine learning, operating systems, algorithms, and computer architecture. Successful applicants will have a strong foundation in the hardware-software interface, Linux-based operating systems, programming languages such as Python and C++, and software development processes. While AI/ML experience is a valuable bonus, this role is focused on embedded or desktop software development. Students with a primary AI/ML focus are encouraged to apply to the Machine Learning Intern position instead.

Requirements

  • University student working toward a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong foundation in hardware-software interfaces and Linux-based operating systems.
  • Programming experience in Python and C++.
  • Familiarity with typical software development processes.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident/green card holder, or protected individual).
  • Must currently reside locally and be available for in-person work at our office.
  • Must be continuing education in the fall.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coursework in machine learning, operating systems, algorithms, and computer architecture is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Work with technical staff on summer projects in software engineering.
  • Support projects such as: On-board spacecraft software.
  • Machine-learning applications.
  • 3D visualization tools.
  • Testing infrastructure.
  • Flight software development tools.
  • Present findings and results through reports or presentations.
