The Aerospace Corporation is hiring a Graduate-level Reliability and Statistics Intern. The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges. The Reliability and Statistics Department provides statistical analysis of failure data, reliability modeling of spacecraft and launch vehicles, satellite constellation launch replenishment planning, and supports a wide variety of statistical applications including design of experiments, machine learning, and statistical process control. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

Requirements

  • Interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations.
  • Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college/university program pursuing a Ph.D. degree in statistics, reliability engineering, or other related discipline .
  • Availability to work full-time for a minimum of 10 weeks outside of university term and ability to return to a degree program full-time after completion of the internship.
  • Completed three years of graduate level work prior to the internship start date.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government.
  • U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Although a security clearance is not required for the intern position, it would be required if a full-time position were offered at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Transcripts required.

Nice To Haves

  • GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Research or professional experience working as a member of a technical team.
  • Coursework or relevant experience in technical writing and technical presentation.
  • Fluency in at least one programming and scripting language (C++, Java, R, Python, Matlab, etc.).
  • Familiarity with reliability and statistics software tools (JMP, Windchill, ReliaSoft, etc.).
  • Current TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Apply statistical techniques to derive insight from a wide variety of data related to space systems.
  • Perform analysis on system availability and replenishment planning for satellite systems.
  • Develop, evaluate, and update reliability models associated with satellite systems and launch vehicle systems.
  • Provide technical advice to management, customers, and associate contractors.
  • Document technical efforts and brief internal and external customers.
