About The Position

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund in partnership with Kiewit presents an exciting opportunity for students. Upperclassman can gain hands-on experience through an internship in Field Operations or Design Engineering, while underclassman can participate in a 2.5 day immersive event designed to provide deeper insight into the company’s culture, projects, and career pathways. Requirements

  • Currently attending a TMCF Member School.
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, construction management or related field.
  • Ability to work full-time during the summer (approximately May-August) if offered an internship.
  • Ability to travel and relocate as business requires.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help ensure that nobody gets hurt.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.

  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

Responsibilities

  • Support jobsite operations by interpreting drawings, performing material/quantity calculations, surveying, preparing work plans, and coordinating crews.
  • Contribute to construction efficiency by tracking labor, ordering/scheduling materials, supervising field activities, and participating in safety reviews and trainings.
  • Provide project support through material takeoffs, basic engineering calculations, cost tracking, and preparation of purchase orders, RFIs, and subcontracts.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation (daily reports, photos, change orders, as-builts) while assisting with recordkeeping and bid preparation.
  • Assist in developing system designs through calculations, layouts, and software modeling, ensuring compliance with standards and codes.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, review drawings for quality, recommend design improvements, and coordinate closely with construction teams for project success.
