About The Position

Are you interested in changing science fiction into reality for our national security in space? Are you passionate about learning about the latest technologies or algorithms and finding new ways to use them? If so, we're looking for someone like you on our team at APL! If you are pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computational Sciences or a related technical field, we'd love to have you join our team! We are seeking a driven engineer, mathematician, or scientist to help us continue designing, developing and assessing the various space technologies and algorithms. You'll be joining a hardworking team who balances independent and/or team work on a variety of space-based projects. Our group maintains proficiencies in photonics, signatures, advanced technology applications, orbital engagements, space control concept assessment, autonomous operations, and multi-disciplinary optimization.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computational Sciences or a related technical field
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Have an interest in technologies or algorithms related to space control applications
  • Have development experience with C/C++, Matlab, Python or equivalent programming languages
  • Have the ability to complete tasking requirements without direct oversight
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Clearance by your start date and ultimately receive a TS/SCI level clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Have prior work experience in the space industry
  • Have relevant experience on academic research or project teams
  • Have an active security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Developing and testing space components for internal research and development efforts
  • Working with models and simulations of current, proposed and future space systems, sensors and constellations
  • Exploring algorithms to improve and assess performance of space systems
