About The Position

Do you enjoy designing technical solutions that use metadata, automation, and AI to solve real-world business problems? Are you motivated by improving how organizations discover, govern, and leverage information at enterprise scale? If you’re pursuing a degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Information Science, or a related field and want to gain experience in enterprise data integration, metadata modernization, and systems automation, we’d love to have you join our team! We are seeking an intern to help modernize enterprise information discovery and contract lifecycle support within the Enterprise Records and Information Management (ERIM) Section, in collaboration with the Contracts group. As a member of our team, you’ll contribute to metadata remediation, data integration, automation, and AI-enabled prototyping efforts that enhance contract search, reporting, archival discovery, and records management processes. You will join a collaborative team focused on improving structured data quality and delivering scalable, data-driven solutions that strengthen enterprise information governance, preservation, and operational efficiency. As a member of our team... • You will be designing, building, testing, and deploying data integration and automation solutions. • You will develop scripts and batch processes to remediate and standardize metadata at scale. • You will support Contracts metadata cleanup and structured data improvements. • You will prototype AI-enabled tools to enhance contract search, classification, and information access. • You will integrate data across enterprise records and knowledge management systems. • You will perform metadata quality assurance and transformation using tools such as Python, Excel, and OpenRefine. • You will collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to develop workflows, analyze reports and enhance system performance.

Requirements

  • Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Have a passion for structured data, automation, AI-enabled solutions, and enterprise systems improvement.
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have experience with Python and command-line environments.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical reasoning skills.
  • Possess attention to detail and strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • To access APL’s facilities and networks, U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Have experience with JSON, Linux, APIs, or systems integration.
  • Are familiar with metadata standards or records management concepts.
  • Have experience with automation, scripting, or data transformation tools such as OpenRefine or regular expressions.
  • Have exposure to generative AI, machine learning, or search optimization concepts.
  • Are interested in enterprise systems, business process improvement, and scalable data solutions.
