About The Position

Are you interested in how technology enables the core operations of a complex organization? Join the Business Applications Group at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), where enterprise systems support critical work across accounting, financial planning, payroll, timekeeping, facilities, and data analytics. As an intern, you will work alongside technical experts who design, configure, integrate, and support the applications that keep the organization running. About the Business Applications Group The Business Applications Group is responsible for the technical systems that support APL’s core business and operational functions. These include applications for: Accounting and financial management Budgeting, forecasting, and planning Human resources, payroll, and timekeeping Enterprise reporting and analytics Facilities, space, and asset planning Our team ensures these systems are reliable, secure, well-integrated, and aligned with organizational needs. We work closely with business partners to translate operational requirements into effective technical solutions and continuously improve how systems support the organization. What You’ll Do This internship provides exposure to how large-scale systems are implemented, supported, and improved. As an intern in the Business Applications Group, you will contribute to real projects that support enterprise systems and the business processes they enable. Assignments will align with your background and interests and may include:

Requirements

  • Are pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Management Information Systems (MIS), Finance Technology, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Business Operations Management, or a related field
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Are analytical, curious, and interested in understanding how systems support business and operational processes
  • Communicate clearly and enjoy working with both technical and non-technical partners
  • Meet the requirements to access APL’s facilities and networks. US Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience related to enterprise systems, business applications, or operational platforms
  • Exposure to ERP systems, financial systems, facilities or asset management systems, or reporting tools
  • Experience with SQL, data visualization tools, scripting, or automation
  • Familiarity with process improvement, system documentation, or requirements analysis
  • Interest in emerging technologies such AI-assisted analytics or generative AI

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with configuration, testing, and support of enterprise business applications
  • Supporting data integration, reporting, and analytics for operational and planning systems
  • Documenting business processes, system workflows, and technical requirements
  • Participating in requirements gathering and solution analysis with business partners
